In the case of water fluoridation, the chemicals that go into the drinking water that more than 180 million people drink each day are not even pharmaceutical grade, but rather a hazardous waste product of the phosphate fertilizer industry. "Fluoride and fluoridation will go down as one of the greatest controversies of the 20th century. Up until the early 1940's, fluorine's effect on life was always deemed poisonous. It was proven to be altering enzymes used by living organisms to carry out a multitude of essential processes. Fluorine, the most reactive element on the planet, is also the strongest free radical. "This detailed critique of the early water fluoridation trials is a compilation of an original 1956 monograph sent to the leading scientists in those studies and their responses, with commentary. Some of the items that stand out for the lay reader are things like, some "groups" were comprised of one person, while others included hundreds. "Negro" children were treated differently because it was "common knowledge" that they had better teeth. Control cities were also treated differently, even to the point of being discarded if the results weren't as expected, i.e. those controls were actually having better results than the experimental cities. Dr. Sutton points out problems in study design, inaccurate reporting of numbers, statistical mistakes, different methods, wrong assumptions, and confirmation bias, among other problems with the studies."
