"Pertussis is a bacterial infection. Pertussis symptoms include an initial phase of symptoms similar to a common cold (runny nose, sneezing, low-grade fever, and a mild cough). After 1-2 weeks, some cases develop bursts of numerous rapid coughs usually accompanied by a high-pitched whoop. Infected adolescents and adults typically have milder symptoms than infants and young children. About 82% of pertussis infections are benign and not reported to public health departments. Before the pertussis mass vaccination program was introduced, nearly all pertussis cases occurred in children of age 9 or younger. It has not been proven that the DTaP vaccine is safer than diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. The vaccine package insert raises questions about safety testing for cancer, genetic mutations, and impaired fertility."

"DPT (also called DTP at times) stands for the Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus Vaccines. The vaccine would eventually be proven to increase a child's risk for encephalopathy, seizures, and death, which is why the US Government switched out the DPT vaccine for a less reactogenic vaccine, the acellular pertussis vaccine, or DTaP vaccine, which replaced the DPT vaccine in the mid-1990s."
